The Star That Lit My Path

The Star That Lit My Path

                                                                                        - By Sivachandran R

In the crowd of silent chairs,
I sat unseen,
A boy who could read,
But never believed.

Years they passed,
No hand reached mine—
Until one day,
A teacher’s eyes found the hidden line.

“Read,” she said—
And I did.
Her smile struck deeper than her hand upon my shoulder.
“You know the words… now know yourself.”

A star pinned to my chest
Burned brighter than the sun.
From that day,
I chased not grades,
But the light that first found me.

From last in the row,
To leader of the hall—
I carry her faith
Like a badge I will never take off.

Summary of the Passage

The Star That Lit My Path

In school, I was the student nobody noticed.
I knew how to read, but I never studied. My grades were low, and my teachers quietly separated me from the others. Nobody asked me what I was doing, what I was thinking, or what I was capable of.

From my early years until 8th grade, I drifted through classrooms like a shadow—present, but unseen.

Then, one day, everything changed.

It was an ordinary class when a teacher asked me, “Why don’t you study? What’s the problem?”
She handed me her book and told me to read a sentence. Without hesitation, I read it clearly.

She looked at me, shocked. Her hand touched my shoulder—not in punishment, but in awakening.
“You can read well. You know the words. Why don’t you study properly?”

Those words lit a spark in me.

From that day, she guided me closely. She told me, “Answer my questions, and I’ll give you a star badge.” In our school, a star badge was a big honour, given only to the best students.

The first time I earned that star, it was more valuable to me than anything else. It touched my pride. It made me want to prove myself. Soon, I became the student with the most stars in my class.

That was the turning point.
By 9th grade, I became class leader—a position I held all the way through 12th grade. From being ignored to being a leader for four straight years, my life had transformed.

The credit belongs to one teacher—the god who saw me when no one else did, who gave me my first star, and with it, my belief in myself.

I carry that star in my heart to this day.
